Exercises That Require Calf Muscle Stretching
Stretching is a requirement for many different exercise programs and sports. Stretching leg muscles and other muscles in the body are great warm ups and cool down procedures to eliminate muscle strain. Although not all muscles need to be stretched before any major event or exercise, there are many advantages to doing so and it is always better to be safe than sorry. Doing any muscle stretching exercise has its benefits that the person will reap after he or she has had a successful exercise, said a fitness trainer who also started business in home gym equipment such as treadmills with seo.
Running is one of the more popular exercises that many people usually do. Jogging, walking and running all have similar stretches that may include stretching the calf muscle. These exercises should always have some form of stretches before going on to running, jogging or walking. Stretching the calf muscle for each leg helps to get the muscles loose and ready before the exercise. The importance of stretching calf muscles focus mainly on the gastrocnemius (calf muscle) not being seriously strained or injured when the main exercises uses it too much. There is still a possibility of the calf muscle being strained even after stretching the calf muscle but this possibility is low.
There are several ways of stretching the calf muscle. One of the more popular ways of stretching calf muscles especially when you are already in the field is to sit in the ground with the legs straight out in front. Lean forward to hold your feet. While holding the toes, slowly pull them forward towards the body until one feels that the stretching of the calf muscle. Hold this stretch for seven to ten seconds and then let go. Stretching calf muscles can be done at least five times. It is important to note that there should be no pain when stretching calf muscle, just a very slight discomfort.
Another way of stretching calf muscles is to face a wall while standing. Feet should be about a foot away from the wall and the person should stand straight. Place both hands on the wall in front of you and at the same time extend one leg behind while keeping both feet flat on the floor. It is important to keep both feet flat on the floor while slowly leaning in to the wall until you feel the muscles in the calf stretch. Hold for about ten seconds and then release. Do the same with the other leg.
